The singer also said his longtime guitarist John Frusciante left, Klinghoffer was the "only choice" to replace him, speaking to MTV News Canada.

Asked about how the band had responded to Frusciante's departure, Kiedis said: "Yeah, you know, we're a new band. Thank goodness. It seemed to be - whether we liked it or not, the right time for that change to take place. It's so exciting when you get thrown a curveball by the universe and you turn that curveball into a home run, and I feel like that is what happened."

Kiedis said the band through an extensive audition process and drafting a new guitarist to come to, revealing one for the role but can not think of Klinghoffer.

He said, He was the only choice. A lot of it had to do with the fact that he was our friend, it's just rare that you have someone who is right there and completely over-qualified for the job. That combination doesn't happen every day, to ignore it would have been stupid and it felt really good to call your friend and asking if he wants to play music, as opposed going to a stranger and asking them that.

Red Hot Chili Peppers UK and Ireland arena tour in November, including two nights at London's O2 arena, nine shows, which will be taken.

When guitarist John Frusciante Chilis 2009 in the momentum of their return after a gap of two years for the recovery of the struggle was decided.

The singer explains on his website: “Brendan came to Hollywood from the UK in the mid 70s, and helped start the punk rock scene in LA. His thing was promoting new music and he went on to be the booker for Club Lingerie on Sunset Strip in the 80s.

“In 1983 Flea and I spent our last dime recording a demo tape. We barged into Club Lingerie in the middle of the day and found Brendan. He listened to the tape on our boombox while we danced around wildly to convey the sort of energy we were bringing to the table.

“He offered us a slot opening for Bad Brains, who at that point were the kings of the scene. We took the gig and started a friendship with Brendan that continued until he died.”

Kiedis telling his bandmates, his friends had died, was left with the task, He says: “I was driving into the studio when I got a text saying Brendan had died of a massive stroke, on his birthday.

“When I got to rehearsal I delivered the news that we’d just lost this beautiful person.

“Then we started playing without really talking. Probably the second thing that came out of that jam was the basis for Brendan’s Death Song.

“It does have a sort of death-march feel to it, but it’s more of a celebration than a bummer. Yes, we lost a good man – but he had a very full life."
